A desiccant canister is placed inside a sealed container to absorb moisture in the air and does not affect other items within the sealed container. This not only keeps the items fresh but increases their shelf-life. The canisters are small and rigid, usually filled with clay or silica gel which has ability to absorb moisture. When a desiccant canister is placed in a sealed container, the moisture is attracted and absorbed by the clay or silica gel. The desiccant canisters can also be filled with activated carbon or other similar substances in order to control odor within the sealed container.
